Fine Piano Tuning in Salt Lake City

Precision tuning that brings out the best in your instrument—no shortcuts, no guesswork.

Why Fine Piano Tuning Makes a Difference

Last month, we tuned a Yamaha grand for a piano teacher in Holladay who swore the instrument “just felt off” even after another company had tuned it a few months prior. The notes weren’t wildly out of tune—but something didn’t sit right. Turns out, the pitch was generally stable, but the intervals between notes weren’t balanced. The temperament was uneven.

After a fine tuning, the difference was immediate. She said, “Now when I play chords, they finally sound like they belong together again.”

Fine tuning is what separates a decent piano from a truly musical one.

What Is Fine Piano Tuning?

Fine piano tuning is the careful, precise adjustment of every string—done after the pitch has already been stabilized (or raised, if needed). It focuses on intonation, stretch tuning, interval consistency, and the tonal characteristics of the piano across all registers.

This type of tuning is especially important for:

  • Experienced pianists with a trained ear

  • Teachers and professionals

  • Recording or performance preparation

  • Pianos that have already had a recent pitch raise or standard tuning

We tune by ear, digitally, or both—depending on what the piano and the situation call for.

When Fine Tuning Is the Right Choice

Fine tuning is recommended when:

  • Your piano was tuned recently but still sounds “off”

  • You’ve had a pitch raise and want to complete the process

  • You’re preparing for a concert, recital, or recording

  • You notice subtle tuning issues in certain octaves

  • Your piano needs stretch tuning adjustments for better tone balance

It’s also what we recommend for pianos that are generally in tune but haven’t been serviced in 6–12 months.

What Happens During a Fine Tuning Visit

When we fine-tune your piano, here’s what we typically do:

  • Evaluate the current tuning stability

  • Check for interval stretching and tonal balance

  • Adjust each string with precise tools and experienced ear

  • Focus on register balance (bass, midrange, treble)

  • Tune to A440 (concert pitch) unless otherwise requested

We’re not rushing through. Fine tuning is a detailed process. You’ll hear the difference—and your piano will feel better to play, too.
